OVERVIEW

1984

  • On December 10th 1983 an international association for enamellers was formed in Images, France, aiming to maintain contact between enamellers through national committees. National committees were then formed in Australia, Chile, Israel, Korea, The Netherlands, Spain, and USA
  • 28th January 1984 a group of enamellers working in the UK met to form a UK Steering committee. This initial committee comprised Georgina Follett, Edward Heath, Endre Hevezi, Pat Johnson, Alex Placzek (Raphael), Jane Short, Gudde Jane Skyrme and Maureen Carswell.

1985 / 6

  • The general meeting was held on 16 March 1985 as a response to an initative taken by the International Committee in Limoges France.
  • Members of the newly formed Society exhibited at the Limoges Biennial Selection. Twelve pieces were accepted, compared with one piece in 1982.
  • The society also organised sending work to four other international exhibitions.
  • A slide index was formed by Jane Short, Chairman of the Selection Committee.
  • October 85 - Slide Show symposium and talk by Elizabeth Holder on photography of enamels held at the Crafts Council Gallery.

1987

  • The society's first exhibition was held at the Electrum Gallery, London - 6 / 23 May
  • 10 June / 31 August - Society exhibition in the Court Yard at the RIBA
  • 10 / 26 June Exhibition in the 2nd Floor gallery at RIBA
  • Gudde agreed to accommodate and administer the Slide Index

1988

  • The society arrange a jewellery exhibition in Pittsburgh USA, and the air transport of members work to the Coburg International Enamel Exhibition.
  • A second exhibition was held at the Electrum Gallery 1 / 19 November.
  • Phill Barnes, Amal Gosh, Alex Raphael, and Elizabeth Turrell had work accepted for the Escola Massana School Competition in Barcelona
  • Members exhibitited internationally and several prizes were awarded to members : Ruth Rushby won the Platinum Competition, City of Geneva Fred Rich won the De Beers Diamond International Competition Phill Barnes & Alex Placzek attained Goldsmths Craftsman of the Year Awards. Alette de Lancome and Elizabeth Turrell exhibited at Enamelling Art in Japan Endre Hevezi and Evangeline Long won 1st and 3rd respectively at the International Enamel Exhibition at La Coruna in Spain.
  • The society exhibition was held at Peacock House, Chipping Camden.

1989

  • The AGM was held at the Light Infantry Museum and Arts Center Durham on the 18 March. Tihs was to coinsed with the opeing of the society exhibition in the gallery. part of the weekend was given over to workshops given by Eadward Heath, Jane Short and Elizabeth Turrell. Jamie bennett and Bill Harper were invited to give illustrated lectures at the Royal College of ARt
  • Society Exhibition was held at the Peacock Gallery Chipping Camden.

1900

  • During January / February, six members of the society spent a month at the Artist Union of the Soviet Union's International Enamelling symposium in Palanga, Lithuania. They were Maureen carswell, Keryn Even, Anal Gosh, Annie Hooton, Ian Robertson and Gudde Skryme.
  • The 6th General Meeting was held in the crafts council on the 28th April. Maureen Carswell stood down as chairman of the society having served since it's inception. She particulary thanked Alex for all her work and support during that time and also Gudde who had supported Alex's work with her computer skills and the newsletter. Maureen also thanked Edward who had served as treasurer during that time. Phill Barnes was elected as Chairman. The membership stood at 47 full members and 14 Associate members

1991

  • 6 / 13 February !st International Symposium Moscow. Phill barnes, Maureen Carswell and Alex Raphael were invited to represent British enamellers. The symposium coinsided with the opening of an international enamel exhibition at the Museum of Decorative ARts. Artists representing Great Britian in the exhibiiton were, Maureen Carswell, Keryn Evely, Anny Hooton, Alex Rahael and Gudde Jane Skyme.
  • 17 March / 10 April BSOE Jewellery Exhibition at The Oxford Gallery
  • 17 March / 25 April BSOE Enamelled Larger work at the Christ Church Gallery, Oxford
  • 5/7 April BSOE Internationall Conference, Wadham College, Oxford. Including a representation of enamellers from the Soviet Union a number of international delegates attended the conference.
  • December - BSOE exhibition at Facets Gallery Dartmouth.

1992

  • 21 March - The 8th General meeting held in the Painted Room Victoria & Albert Museum
  • 4 SEpptember / 11 October - BSOE exhibition at The Gallery Ruthin Crafts Center, Wales
  • BSOE members exhibitied at the 1st International Contemporary Enamel, Lithuania.

1993

  • 2 / 5 April BSOE 2nd International Conference, Pembrooke College cambridgfe
  • 3/17 April - BSOE exhibition at CCA Gallery Cambridge
  • 9 May / 13 June 34 BSOE Members exhibitied at Kunstvereign, Coburg, Germany.

1994

  • BSOE exhibition at Eells Gallery, Blossom Music Center, Ohio, USA
  • BSOE exhibition with Contemporary American, Cadian & European Enamellist, Kent State University, Ohio USA and the Clay and Glass Gallery, Canada.
  • BSOE exhibition at The Guildhall Gallery Winchester, UK
  • 1994 slides of members work were presented to the Library at San Diego, Califonia.
  • Large scale enamel workshop by Pat Johnson held at Burnham Signs, Kent

1995

  • 17 June / 20 August - 3rd International Enamel Exhibition at Coburg, Germany. Many members took part and Maureen Carswell was one of five international jurors.
  • 24 / 25 March - BSOE 3rd International Conference at West Dene College Chitchester
  • Large scale enamel workshop by Pat Johnson held at Burnham Signs, Kent

1996

  • BSOE exhibition at "Farenhieght 96 " Kirkland USA
  • August BSOE exhibition, Seattle WA, USA
  • Group trip organised to Instanbul
  • 1996 Enamelist Society Conference abd exhibition 21 members participated.

1997

  • "Fusion" Sologlas Gallery, Bristol Museum and Art Gallery.

1998

  • 3/5 April - 4th International Conference, West Dene College Chitchester, Sussex
  • BSOE Summer exhibition at Studio Fusion, London

1999

  • Glass on metal - BSOE exhibition at Alistair Gill Gallery, Bristol

2000 / 01

  • Newsletter began to be published as a full colour 12 page document. Editor Pat Johnson. The circulation extended to museums, colleges and other national and international bodies.

2002

  • BSOE exhibition - " Contemporary Glass on Metal" The Garden gallery Oxfordshire Museum, Woodstock Oxfordshire.
  • BSOE exhibition "Process " Sutton College, Surrey

2003

  • 23 Members exhibited at Giraffe, Recontre Internatioanl De L'Email Exhibition, Morez, France
  • BSOE Launched their website www.enamellers.org

2004

  • February - Rison screen workshops for members hosted by Annie Appleyard - taught by Ian Robertson
  • May - Riso screen workshops for members hosted by Hilary Bolton and taught by Pat Johnson
  • June / July - BSOE summer exhibition "Fire Works " The Garden gallery The Oxfordshire Museum Woodstok, Oxfordshire.

2005

  • February - Riso Screen Workshop for members hosteed and taught by Maureen Carswell and Jill Levinton at the English Bridge Workshop, Shrewsbury.
  • Workshop Visit and Talk by hali Baykov
  • May - Hi & Low Firing techniques workshop, hosted and taught by Van Long and Ruth Ball
  • July - BSOE Exhibition in Salou, Spain at the invitaiton of the Spanish Enamelist Society.

2006

2007

  • Ulla Huttunen Enamel Exhibition - A touring exhibition of Ulla's enamels including 17 invited members of the BSOE. The exhibition toured three prestigiuos venues in Finland.
  • 18 August – 15 September 2007 - "Out of the Fire" BSOE Exhibition at The Garden Gallery, Oxfordshire Museum, Woodstock,Oxfordshire.

2008

  • 20 September – 2 November 2008 - The Playing with Fire Exhibition started it's tour at Riverside Mill Gallery, Devon. The exhibition was run in conjunction with The Devon Guild of Craftmen and The University of the West of England. Other venues included...........add info here check dates
